Share Madness by Peter Lyons

A fun, hands-on, interactive game/simulation which illustrates to students how the sharemarket works.

  • Can be used with 7-28 participants.

  • Suitable for students in New Zealand from years 10-13 studying economics.

  • Appropriate for the teaching of economics at International schools.

Students work in groups of 1 to 4 students. Each group is to trade shares and cash in order to maximise their wealth by the end of the activity.

Key learning objectives for students are:

  • To understand how the sharemarket works.

  • To determine how various economic events can impact on the values of different companies in the sharemarket.

  • To appreciate the advantages of diversification.

This simulation encourages the use of critical thinking and the application of economic analysis.
